Buying or even – if you’re very lucky – being gifted a beautiful bone china mug, is very special indeed. Unless it’s something that deserves to be put up on a shelf and displayed, however, you’re going to want to use that mug, possibly every day (and even numerous times a day).
This wouldn’t be an issue with a standard mug, but a bone china one is different. Whether you’re using them to drink tea, coffee, or some other beverage, some remnants can be left behind.
What is the answer then? It would be a shame not to use the bone china mug. We have some useful tips when it comes to cleaning; read on to find out what they are.
It should come as no surprise that you can use white vinegar to clean stains from a bone china mug. After all, you can use it to clean all kinds of things, and it is excellent for when you need to descale your kettle.
All you need to do is heat one cup of white vinegar gently and then soak the mug in it. Leave it overnight (or at least for four hours), and the results should be a sparkling clean mug that you can happily start using again.
Much like white vinegar, baking soda is a great catch-all cleaner, and it’s wise to have some in your home for any eventuality. One such eventuality is cleaning a bone china mug.
It’s simple enough to do; you just have to make a paste by adding a little water to the baking soda. Apply that paste to the stained areas, leave for ten minutes, and gently scrub with a sponge. Depending on how deeply ingrained the stains are, this may have to be repeated.
Some people are worried about placing their delicate bone china in a dishwasher, but it’s actually perfectly safe to do so as long as you don’t allow anything inside to touch it – if they do, the china might become scratched. You should also not wash at a temperature of above 40 degrees.
